This is the second in series about commenting. I want to give reasons why I would comment on your blog.
1.Be known
Commenting on other blog increases has increased my popularity i.e most comments on this blog is due to people returning my comments on their blog.
2. Ask a question
When I want to clarify something I don’t understand in a post, I would leave a comment and subscribe to receive comments in my email.
3. Among a top commenter
I like to comment on blogs that show list of top commenters. This is because I get free backlink for the period I am among the list of the top commenters.
4. Shown some love
Some wordpress blogs (including mine) has installed Comment luv plugin. What I do is, I try to write an eye catching title. Then I comment on blogs with the plugin installed. The comment plugin would show my title and attractive another reader to click on the title. Digital Product review has a list of comment luv blogs
5. Clarify an item
I wrote about gattach, but I had problem downloading it then. Chris Wood of gattach.net, told me there is an updated version gattach.
6. Show gratitude
I show gratitude by saying nice post, nice tip, I will try it out.
7. Do Follow
I like commenting on do follow blogs to get free backlinks. I don’t know how many comments do you have to post before the blog follows your link. I am saying this because I once installed a do follow plugin and I chose follow link after 7 comments. Thenexus has a list of do follow blogs
8. Support the Blogger
Seeing comments on your blog is a sign that people reads your blog. I tend to comment on new blogs.

To be honest, I don’t have such a list.
If I like a blog I leave a comment. If I like a blog a lot I bookmark it / subscribe to it’s feed and try to visit and leave comments daily.

I comment because I find the post is interesting, or to show support to the blogger, or to ask a question, or to provide an opposite thought or to even to promote one’s blog.

Short, sweet and to the point. I tend to comment more on posts i can read quickly. Thanks, we all need reminding form time to time that this is a two-way communication medium.

For top commentator there is prize 200$, many people will post there every day.
