On sept 2, 2009, I was surprised that I gained more than 1000 visits from Digg. I was shocked because I did not submit any of my post to digg. The post that brought me this amount of traffic was Google’s Chrome Browser in Beta Stage (You can submit the post to digg to bring more traffic to me).

How did I get this amount of visitors ? This is what I did

Google released their Chrome browser on that day. Before the browser was released, it was the talk of the blogosphere. I decided to download the browser when Google releases it to the public and I would blog about my experience. When Google released the browser, I downloaded and installed it. As I was reading other blogs and news website, I came across an article Speed test: Google Chrome beats Firefox, IE, Safari on CNET. I noticed the author used a window XP laptop and he did not test  Opera browser Javascript speed on the link Google’s engineer provided to test your browser’s speed. This was a opportunity to spam my blog’s URL link.

I have Opera, Flock and Avant browsers. I decided to test these browsers javascript speed on the website provided. I tested Firefox 3, IE 7, Avant, Flock, Opera 9.5.1 and Chrome. I did a graph of their Javascript speed and made a blog post about the graph and the browsers javascript speed. With the link of my blog post, I decided to make a comment on the CNET saying I tested these other browser javascript speed and I made a post on my blog. On that day, I got 77 visits from CNET website

The CNET site was dugg. As readers read the website, they saw my comments saying I said I have more test on my blog and visited my blog. The next day, I got, to be percise, 1,144 visitors from digg. I also got 823 from CNET.

Just like me but different style of getting the traffic. That was good for you.

it is proven that the first bloggers to talk about something new and hot will take advantage of the traffic it may bring. You were able to catch this. but you were also smart to take advantage of that test. good job

I don’t submit my post to digg. I have submitted like 3 post and none brought traffic to my blog. I have like only 30 friends on digg to digg my post.

That’s quite a traffic haul! Interesting that you never actually posted your article to Digg, but that’s where it came from.

Nice. Good on you.

Like the saying “The early bird catches the worm” you’ve effectively promoted your blog at the right time.

I’ll try it out. ;)

I’ve been wanting to try this technique out, but unfortunately I don’t follow any of the big news sites.
