Commenting on other blogs was one way that I got visitors to this blog. From my other post 8 Reasons Why I would Comment on Your Blog and 10 Reasons Why I would Not Comment on your Post, you can see that I love commenting on other blogs. The trick with commenting is that you should leave meaningful comments on the blog to get traffic to your site. You can either ask a question or add to the post by including what the author left out in the post through commenting.
Adding to the post is good, it shows that you know your stuff. But I prefer asking a question. It is because if the author really cares about his readers, he would be compelled to reply back to your question and this would show other commenters that there is a community going on in that blog.
The only demerit of commenting is that once you comment, your comment is open for everyone to see. If somebody does a google search for your blog, he would be able to see your comment. This is why before you comment, think about the comment. Don’t just make a thoughtless comment. If you have no reasonable and constructive comment, do not comment. Hop to another blog where you can make a reasonable and post the comment.

Thank you for your thoughts regarding commenting on blogs. Excellent information. What I really agree with (if not everything), is that people should most definately think before they post a comment. Once you press that fabled submit button, your comment is undeniably out in the open - for the entire blogging community to read.
Just like we’re taught in grade school - Think before you speak!

I’ve realized that there are many different types of commenters. I always want comments that are relevant to the topic of the post. I don’t appreciate receiving irrelevant comments - some bloggers do this to promote their contests or to simply exchange links and to me, I feel undervalued in my efforts to craft a blog post.
I hope this one counts as a meaningful comment.
