The title of this post should include CNET News because I commented on CNET News website. CNET News sent me 823 visits on that day as digg. I can say digg traffic sucks. I thought there would be a better effect, but there wasn’t. I can categorize the effect of both digg and CNET into 2 effects. They are
1. Ads
I got ZERO earning from adsense. Looking at my advance report on adsense, I checked the time frame between sept 3 -5 and I got almost 7,000 impressions. I cannot believe that no one thought or saw an ad to click on. I forgot, digg and CNET News views are tech or web savvy users. They can ads-blinded users. I also use kontera on this blog. Within the same time frame, sept 3 - 5, I got 1,700 impressions with 4 ads click. I cannot say if the clicks were intentional or not.
2. Subscribers
From my feedburner, I noticed I had 54 subscribers on sept 3, 40 subscribers on the 4th. But it is now to the range of 28-34. This is better because I was in the middle 20’s before I had the surge in traffic. I didn’t have any email subscribers.
I can conclude that the traffic was worthless. My bounce rate from was 95% and 91% for digg and CNET news respectively. But what I like about the traffic was having the feel of being a problogger. I remember logging into my admin panel and seeing “45 users online”. I felt I had a community on this blog and people wanted to listen what I had to say.

It’s cool to have so much traffic but like your research shows: Traffic doesn’t necessarily means making money or an increasing in subscribers. I have a digg account but I actually don’t do anything with it, and you just showed me that I haven’t missed anything! :p
Anyway, I prefer the comments on my posts. For me that’s a sign that people do care and read my posts and that’s fine with me.
By the way: I just noticed: I’m a top commentator!

At least you’ve tried. Maybe you’re on to something.
Like you I get to see very small earnings from those ads. I’m still wondering how probloggers really get their users to click on their ads. I admit that I also avoid clicking ads when I visit another site.

I can understand and I make it a point to read, comment, sign up for Feeds or click on ads that provide valueable information. Its a very good observation. When commenting on CNet vs Perez Hilton ones blog should be prepared to accomodate that traffic. Hmmm…. Thanks for the tip.
