Wordpress released version 2.6 yesterday 14th July. It was 1 month ahead of schedule (Kudoos to wordpress development team). Version 2.6 has been a long (for 2 months) and anticipated version. The wordpress development team first released the version 2.6 beta 1, 2.6 beta 2 and version 2.6 beta 3. These versions were trial version. The team wanted people feedback on them. Version 2.6 was released to fix about 194 bugs, according to the offical wordpress blog.

Apart from fixing bugs, there are some new features in 2.6
1.Word count to count the amount of words in your post

2. Customizable default avatars

3. Image caption

4. Ability to manage bulk plugin. You can delete plugins. This take of me having to remove the plugin file from my plugin folder through ftp. It also notifies you that a plugin(s) needs to be updated by placing a number on the plugin link on the dashboard.

5. Theme preview. You would be able to view how a theme would look like on your blog without changing the theme.

Upgrading to wordpress 2.6 is piece of cake if you have the Automatic wordpress plugin. It takes like 1.5 minutes to upgrade. The Automatic plugin is found at here

This is a video from the wordpress blog highlighten the improvements of version 2.6.
